Boris Valentinovich Scherbakov (1916 - 1996). Boris Shcherbakov was a Soviet and Russian painter known for his works in the Socialist Realism style. Born in Saint Petersburg, he graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. Though recognized for his war-themed paintings, Shcherbakov was also known for his landscape works, which depicted rural and urban scenes throughout the Soviet Union. His landscapes often portrayed the natural beauty of the Russian countryside, focusing on forests, rivers, and rural life. These works emphasized clarity and realism, with an attention to the changing seasons and the harmony between people and nature. Many of his landscape paintings were exhibited in Soviet state-sponsored shows, and his works are part of collections in the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum. Shcherbakov's landscapes were marked by a calm, idealized portrayal of Soviet rural environments.
