Dirck van Santvoort (1610 - 1680). Van Santvoort was a son of Dirck Pietersz Bontepaert and Truytgen Pietersdr. Dirck and his brothers took the name Santvoort. On his mother's side he was a grandson of Pieter Pietersz. and a great-grandson of Pieter Aertsen. His older brother Pieter was a landscape painter. Presumably preacher and engraver Abraham Dircksz van Santvoort was another brother of his. Their father was also a painter and he may have been Dirck and Pieter's first teacher. His work has not been preserved. The RKD mentions that Dirck van Santvoort was married twice. By his first wife he would have had a son named Rembrandt. It is unknown whether he himself had associations with this painter, but his work does show his influence. Dirk Dirksz. developed into a leading painter of portraits. He produced many works, although his active period was only about ten years. No works by him are known from after 1645. The painter was buried in Amsterdam on March 9, 1680.
