Pieter Jacobsz Duyfhuysen (1608 - 1677). Pieter Jacobsz. Duyfhuysen, also known as Colinchovius, was a Dutch painter and draughtsman from the period of the Golden Age. His oeuvre consists mainly of genre paintings with peasant life as a theme, as well as a few portraits and religious subjects. His work can be compared in theme and style with that of other painters working in Rotterdam, such as Cornelis Saftleven, Herman Saftleven, Hendrick Martensz. Sorgh and Pieter de Bloot. Duyfhuysen was born in Rotterdam as the son of a notary. He lived and worked in the city all his life, with the exception of the period 1625 - 1627, when he was apprenticed to Johannes Torrentius in Haarlem. After his return to Rotterdam, he lived with his brother Jacob, who was also a civil-law notary and for whom he regularly acted as a witness. Pieter Duyfhuysen was buried in his hometown on September 27, 1677.
