Simon Novellanus. Simon Novellanus was a German draftsman and coppersmith active at the end of the 16th century.
Together with the copperplate engraver Franz Hogenberg, he collaborated with copperplate engravings for Georg Braun's large pictorial work Civitates orbis terrarum, which was published in 1572–1618. Novellanus has there reproduced images from half a dozen Swedish cities as well as the Danish Uranienborg on Ven.
It is unclear whether Novellanus visited Sweden to draw the cities himself or whether he was sent sketches to work from. The images produced for the original edition have since been reproduced countless times in other books.
Novellanus is represented at, among others, the Gothenburg Art Museum.
