Carlo Gregori (1691 - 1741). Carlo Bartolomeo Gregori was an Italian engraver. Born in Lucca to Pellegrino di Tomeo and Maria di Nardi, of humble origins, he moved to Florence with his family in a house on the Ponte alle Grazie, where they opened a merchandise shop. He studied the art of the burin and began to frequent the workshop of Domenico Tempesti, then he went to Rome and become a pupil of Johann Jakob Frey the Elder and Agostino Masucci. In his activity as an engraver he was very prolific and worked in Florence, Rome, Parma and Venice. Gregori was among the first to deepen the study of techniques for the reproduction of drawings. He had two sons, Ferdinando and Antonio, both engravers.
