Kuban Group (c-440 - c-390). The Kuban Group is a group of Attic vase painters who worked at the end of the 5th and the beginning of the 4th century BC. They produced Panathenaic prize amphorae. These are probably the prize vases of the Panathenaic Games from 406, 402, 398 and 394 BC. The group is named after an amphora from the Kuban area. The vases are decorated with black figures in the tradition of the prize amphora, at a time when only red-figure vases were usually produced. Stylistically, several vase painters can be identified, one of whom is associated with Aristophanes, a second comes from the circle of the Pronomos Painter.
