Artists who influenced Francis Towne
English painter. He began to paint in oils at the age of 14, probably at Shipley's Academy in the Strand, London, where he studied at the same time as Ozias Humphrey, Richard Cosway and William Pars. In the late 1750s he returned to Exeter and set up as a drawing-master.
